About this role

As a Color Chemist, you will work in the Harmar Research and Development Lab and support PMC Plants. You will establish, plan, manage projects, and respond to development and technical support activities for the marine coatings, floorings coatings, and protective coatings business. Your responsibilities include solving multiple requirements such as substitutions of pigments or colorants due to supplier shortages, color adjustments in batches manufactured by PMC plants, prioritizing compliance dates, and negotiating with different areas based on available resources. You will ensure that the color formulas developed in the laboratory work and are reproducible in the plant, distribution centers, and dealers. Additionally, you will be involved with production scale-up, launches, and maintenance of product lines, help with manufacturing and field concerns through root cause analysis, and work with internal and external R&D scientists/chemists, plant personnel, marketing, and sales managers/salespeople. Other duties include equipment maintenance and calibration, ordering raw materials, proper disposal of paint waste or raw materials and lab supplies, competitor benchmarking, and other testing.

Requirements

The ideal candidate will have a BS in Chemistry, Polymer Science, or Chemical Engineering, with at least 3 years of relevant coatings industry experience. Knowledge of epoxy, polyurethane, polysiloxane, inorganic zinc silicate, water-based products formulating principles, and solvent-based formulating is necessary. The candidate should be familiar with coatings industry ASTM testing methods and have experience in laboratory work, including modifying color formulas. A color blindness test is required, and knowledge of color measurement technology is essential. The ability to travel up to 25% domestically and internationally is also required.
